OR... You may want to consider converting to a Tankless Water Heater

Why?... Endless Hot Water, Energy Efficient, Space-Saving, Environmentally Friendly, and Peace of Mind

How do they Work?

A tankless system is a gas fired water heater that only heats when it senses a demand from an open water source. The water flows through a heat exchanger and is heated to the designated temperature set by the user. The system can produce and supply an endles source of hot water to mulitple outloets without any fluctuation in temperature at the rate of up to 8.4 gallons per minute.

Since this sytem does not store water it is 50% more efficient that a traditional gas water heater and up to 70% more efficient than an electric. The life expectance of this system is 25 years compared to 10 years for the tank water heater.

The tankless unit is about the size of a suitcase and can be installed indoors or outdoors freeing valuable room in the home and with no tank, the risk of water damage to your home is eliminated.

Top To Top Of Page Tips to Prevent Frozen Pipes

A. To help protect pipes in or near exterior walls, do not set the thermostat below 60 degree F.
B. Leave under sink cabinet doors open on very cold windy nights.
C. Let water run at a steady trickle.
D. Keep a light burning in a a relatively confined space, but excercise caution when using lights or other heat sources in the battle against freesing pipes.

Contrary to one's belief, it is not the expanding of the ice itself that causes the pipe to burst. It is the high water pressure th at builds up between the blockage and the faucet as the ice continues to form so the pipe may burst where it is not frozen. If you discover that a pipe is frozen, leave the sink valve open a little to provide relief from the excessive pressure. To thaw a frozen pipe, use a hair dryer or heat gun on a low setting (moving back and forth, never hold on one spot) and never use a torch. If there is a chance that the pipe may have burst, look for a shutoff vavle to that section of pipe, or if necessary, shut off the main wter supply to prevent flooding when it does thaw.

Ideas to Keep Your Garbage Disposal in Working Order

  • Always run cold water when grinding in order to move the waster all the way through the drain lines. Fats and grease congeal and harden in cold water which then can be flushed theought eh system. Do not use hot water when grinding because it can dissolve fats and grease, which may accumulate in the drainline.
  • Grinding a little ice is a way to clean our deposits and get rid of odors.
